Sport Relief

Sport relief socks have been on sale at Brownhills CTC raising money for a good cause and encouraging pupils to get active. Pupils will wear the red & white stripes as they take part in the Brownhills Sport Relief mile on Friday lunchtime at school. The mile has staggered starts for all year groups with a prize - kindly donated by Fitness First -  for the best competitor in each year.

Joint Venture at Brownhills CTC

A new project involving Dartfish Technology has been launched this week involving the ICT and PE departments at Brownhills CTC and Millfield Primary School. Pupils in Class 5 at Millfield have been recorded in their gymnastics lesson and the footage has been used together with the Dartfish programme. This has enabled the pupils to watch their own performance and that of others. They can then analyse, evaluate and compare against the 'perfect' model. Following the analysis of their work the pupils then went back to the gym to try and improve their headstand, cartwheel and forward roll using what they had learnt from Dartfish. The progress made was instant! The improved performance has been recorded on a still camera for the pupils to look at back at Millfield.

The next step would be for the children to have their original performance running simultaneously with their original performance - so that they can view the improvement.

We hope to be able to develop the project further and perhaps look to involve the programme in Assessment for Learning in PE for our Year 6 students.

Experts Keep Fit Advice for Brownhills CTC Students

Pupils have been keeping fit and learning about living a healthy lifestyle during special exercise classes at a Brownhills school. Teenagers at Brownhills Community Technology College have been receiving advice from a trained health and fitness expert. The teenage pupils take part in aerobic and boxercise classes which encourage them to keep active and boost their level of physical activity.

The sessions are led by Andy Wilson, the Health and Fitness Manager at Fitness First in Walsall Wood, who also is able to provide advice. Students take part in aerobic and boxercise sessions as part of a healthy schools project which aims to show the benefits of keeping active.

The aim of the sessions is to make exercise fun and due to the success of the scheme it is now being extended to Year 9 students on a Friday.

New Badminton Opportunities for Brownhills CTC pupils!

Badminton players at a Brownhills school are looking forward to competing against youngsters from across the borough in a newly-formed league.

Pupils from Brownhills Community Technology College will feature in the new Walsall Badminton League following a valiant performance in the final of the Black Country secondary schools competition at the Walsall Campus of the University of Wolverhampton on Tuesday, 5 February.

Two teams reached the final after notching up a string of victories. Boys who made up the KS3 team were Matthew Slade, Dayle Jones, Glen Wellings and Cameron Cope while Daniel Fenton, Sam James, Adam Arthur and Myles Hugman were in the KS4 team.

Karen Chambers, school governor and former pupil said " While Brownhills is a specialist technology college the pupils aim to excel in everything they do, including sport."

"They gave it their best shot at the tournament but sadly didn't qualify. But they are looking forward to competing in the new league." Headteacher Helen Keenan said the whole school was proud of the boys.

New term - new SSCO!

PE Teacher  Mrs.Geldard -Williams replaced Miss Shilton as the SSCO for Brownhills CTC in September.

Miss.Shilton has moved on to a job in Tamworth and we wish her well.

Mrs.Geldard-Williams first taught at Brownhills way back in 1991 before leaving to live in America in 1995. Since returning from America she has worked periodically at Brownhills after having her own family. Her own three boys are now at school and she  returned to teach PE, whilst Miss.Shilton first took on the role of SSCo  5 years ago and now finds herself in the role of SSCo.
