Students Organise Brownhills Family Years 3/4 Football Festival
Since the beginning of September 19 students from Year 10 at Brownhills CTC have undertaken the FA Junior Football Organisers Course during their PE lessons. The course ensures that young people have football specific knowledge and skills to assist in the delivery of football activities for players aged 6 - 11 years old. The students have now learned how to referee and they have learned the first streps in how to coach young people. As part of the course the pupils have spent 3-4 sessions of coachign in our family primary schools prior to the JFOC primary School Festival. This year the festival was the most successful yet with each of our 5 family schools participating with two teams each. The standard of football and the quality of the students' organisation and leadership was first class. Many parents were very complimentary during the competition. Approximately 60 children took part. The final was a fair and exciting spectacle. Millfield 'B' were worthy winners (taking the title from Watling Street who were last years winners), beating Brownhills West 'A' 3-1. Congratulations to the successful team manager Hayden Mellowship and his team, and the top scorer Sam Molton from Millfield. A big WELL DONE! to all involved.

Family High Five Netball Festival
The Brownhills high five festival was contested between St James, St Bernadette's, Watling Street and Millfield primary schools. The winning team will represent the Brownhills Family in the Partnership competition on 6th Match at Leamore Park. We kicked off at 3.30pm and each school played the others in 7 minute halves on two courts. The standard of play was good and the behaviour of the pupils was exemplory. There was not one example of complaining to the umpire, moaning at team mates, and instead everyone encouraged each other and had smiles of their faces - which was fantastic to see. Results: Round One: Watling Street 0-2 Millfield St James 3-1 St Bernadette's Round Two: Watling Street 2-0 St Bernadette's St James 4-4 Millfield At the end of the second round of games St James and Millfield had the same number of points and identical goal difference, therefore the winners would be the team with the greatest wining margin in the final game. Round Three Watling Street 1-11 St James Millfield 6-3 St Bernadette's St James won with a superior goal difference of +7 Congratulations to St James' Well Done to all pupils who played so well and demonstrated such great sporting behaviour

Schools Swimming Gala
This is the first time in many years that there has been a schools swimming gala in Walsall and was the result of much hard work by the School Sport Co-ordinators, teachers, pupils and parents. Pupils from all over Walsall were brought to the Gala Baths by parents and family members. Brownhills had a strong representation with all three of the girls swimming in the individual events as well as the relay. The races were strongly contested and all pupils had a great time. The winning Partnership was Streetly, followed closely by Shelfield and then Willenhall. Well done to everyone involved. We look forward to seeing you all next year!

Swimming Gala
Following the success of the family swimming gala the winning pupils in each event represented the Brownhills Family in the Partnership Swimming Gala, also held at Brownhills, on 29th January. Our pupils swam brilliantly and by the final relay there was just one point separating Brownhills and Shelfield families. Unfortunately it was not to be and Brownhills just lost out. However, there were plenty of individual winners with the following pupils representing Shelfield Partnership in the Walsall Schools Swimming Gala: Imogen Jones, Shannon Price, Lucy Beardsmore and Tony Foxall Well done to everyone who took part. |

Family Swimming Gala
"Recently on the fifteenth of January Millfield School, St James School, St Bernadettes School and Watling Street School were all invited to a swimming gala which was held at Brownhills Community Technology College and run by Shelfield Sports Partnership. A few examples of the races the children took part in were individual races, relay races and medley races, all using the main strokes; front crawl, back stroke, breast stroke and butterfly. All schools tried very hard but the overall winning school was Watling Street and the children that won their individual races go through to the Partnership Swimming Gala also held at Brownhills Community Technology College" (report collabratively written by the girls from Watling Street's winning team) Well done to all who took part and thanks must also go to the PE department at Brownhills CTC who gave up their time to help Mrs Geldard-Williams start, score, time and officiate the gala and make this family festival one of the most successful to date. |
